Karlie & Kaitlyn Picking Pumpkins
Which One Do I Want?

We have an October tradition that we started the year that Karlie was born.  We go to a local pumpkin patch, check out the pumpkins, and take LOTS of pictures.  This year, we decided to do something a little different.  We headed to Tanaka Farms, a real pumpkin farm in Irvine where you pick your own pumpkins.  There were acres and acres of pumpkins and even a wagon ride.  The girls loved touching pumpkin after pumpkin.  Kaitlyn loved the sound they made when she would pound on each one like a drum.  We had a wonderful time.  On the way home, we stopped at a pumpkin patch with kiddy rides so Karlie could ride the train and slide down the giant slide.  Kaitlyn just observed from the sidelines.  That night we enjoyed a quiet evening watching the Angels play in the World Series.  A few days later, Karlie went to a different pumpkin patch with her preschool -- she was so thrilled about riding on the school bus.   She came home with a big smile on her face and a Karlie-sized pumpkin.

Kaitlyn this month...she is learning the different parts of the face. She started off pointing at her ear when she said eye, but is now learning the difference between the two. She loves to dance by twirling in circles and bobbing her head up and down. When she first wakes up in the morning, she will sit in her crib talking and will eventually call for Daddy to get her out. She will stand in front of her high chair when she’s hungry and say "want eat." This is quite a change from the little girl who would cry when you put her in her chair and refuse to eat until you got that first bite in her mouth. She loves her baby dolls. She’ll carry them around, patting them on the back and put them to bed in the baby bed that Papa (John's dad) made for Karlie last Christmas.

Hmmm....So Many Pumpkins to Choose From!

Karlie this month...Karlie has a favorite teacher at school, now -- Miss Caryn.  She talks about Miss Caryn all the time and tells us how much she misses her when she's not in school.  There are several teachers and the one in charge of Karlie's class is Mrs. Burris, the school director.  Karlie only sees Miss Caryn a few times a day, so this probably has something to do with why we hear so much about her.  We experienced our first school fundraiser, just one of many more to come.  The school used the money to buy an huge awning to cover the outdoor lunch area, which is a huge improvement.  While Karlie isn't real talkative about her day at school when we ask her questions each evening, we do get bits and pieces as the time goes by.  The other day April was reading her a book and Karlie asked her who the author and illustrator of the book was.   We were both pleased.  She is definitely learning!
