Our little one has finally arrived! She was due July 12th, but the doctors were telling us "any day" for over two weeks (April was dilated to 3cm), so we were getting a little anxious! We should have known that Thursday, July 5th, would be the day, since we were just starting a house project. (With Karlie, we were in the middle of wallpapering the living room!) This time, we were at Home Depot when contractions started. Thankfully, April had a very easy delivery.
Contractions started around 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 5th, but we weren't quite sure if it was the real thing or not. Our suspicions were confirmed about an hour later when they became regular and more severe. We headed to the hospital about an hour later, around 8:00 p.m., and dropped Karlie off at our friends who were on the way. We arrived at the hospital around 9:00 p.m.. By 9:30 p.m., April was only dilated to 5cm, so we thought we had a ways to go yet. (In fact, John's dad's birthday was the next day, so we thought he was going to have to share his day with his grandchild!) Boy, were we wrong! April's water broke 15 minutes later and Kaitlyn arrived 10 minutes after that at 9:55 p.m., not quite three hours since April's contractions first started! We are so thrilled to have another little girl! As many of you know, we didn't find out if we were having a boy or a girl ahead of time, so it was a long wait, but certainly worth it. Not finding out made it very interesting for us since strangers and friends alike were predicting a girl or boy based on the way April was carrying.
We left the hospital around 5:00 p.m. the next day -- Kaitlyn was not even 24 hours old. Both mommy and baby are doing well. While it's only been a few days, Karlie is adjusting very well. She is very excited about her new sister and, so far, doesn't seem jealous about the little one. She is quite the little helper and calls her "my Kaitlyn." We'll see how long that lasts!
