June, 2000
We
spent a delightful week at Walt
Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Karlie stayed with
John's parents, since we knew she was still too young to enjoy Mickey Mouse (and the
hot, humid weather). We had fun visiting Epcot, Magic Kingdom (aka
Disneyland), and some of the other attractions, like Pleasure Island and
Downtown Disney. We missed Karlie, but knew she was in very good
hands.
We were amazed at how big Disney World
really is...40 square
miles! Besides the major theme parks that we visited, there were also three water parks,
an animal park, and a park similar to Universal Studios. Plus, there are
several resorts, which are attractions in themselves since there are many shops
and restaurants within them. We stayed at Disney's
Coronado Springs Resort for the first five nights, then moved to Disney's Dixie Landings Resort (our favorite of
the two) for the remaining three days.

We
also had a chance to head out to the coast for an afternoon, so we toured
Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, which was incredibly interesting. Our timing was perfect, as the
Liberty Bell 7 exhibit was temporarily
housed at this facility. The Liberty Bell is the spacecraft that
was recently retrieved from the bottom of the ocean, where it had been for 39
years. After leaving the space center, we drove over to Cocoa Beach to wet our
feet in the Atlantic Ocean.
