SANTA BARBARA, CA
March, 2002

Karlie loved her first train ride.

Karlie and Kaitlyn experienced their first train ride in March of 2002.  We took Amtrak from Fullerton to Santa Barbara to pick up our new Ford truck from the only dealership that had the one we wanted.  It was a three and a half hour train ride, but we had a blast.   We planned on staying the night in Santa Barbara, so we packed up one duffle bag for all four of us (a feat in itself!) and hauled all the necessities, such as two car seats (for the drive home), a stroller, a backpack to carry Kaitlyn, and our two girls.  And this was traveling "light"!  Both girls did fabulous on the train.  It was too exciting, so we unintentionally skipped naptime.

From the train station, we headed straight to the dealer to pickup our 2002 Ford F-250 crew cab diesel truck.  An hour later, we left the dealership in our new wheels.  We weren't on the road two minutes when both girls fell fast asleep.  We decided to drive a bit and ended up an hour from home before the girls finally awoke.  So much for our night in Santa Barbara, but it was a great time!  We definitely want to do the trip again, maybe just the two of us next time, so we can enjoy a romantic dinner and pampering at a quaint B&B.

Our New Truck (it was worth the drive to Santa Barbara!)

Our new truck is a 2002 Ford F250 Crewcab 4x4.  It's the Lariat model with the Powerstroke diesel engine.  John can hardly wait to tow our trailer with it!  We're planning on installing a lift kit and larger tires in the next month or so.  I'm sure John will add some photos of this new project in his "john's hobbies" page.
