Twin
Lakes is a beautiful area nestled between several mountains including the
glacier-covered mountain named Matterhorn Peak, which is over 12,000 feet high.
The two lakes are located just northeast of Yosemite
National Park, near Bridgeport,
Ca. We drove the 400 or so miles in our motorhome and camped at Annett's
Mono Village, which is a delightful, wooded campground located on the upper
lake. It has remained unchanged since the late 1960's when John's parents
first started taking him there.
We
found a spot to park right on Robinson Creek which runs through the campground
(what a view!). The deer (and sometimes bears) roam the campground daily
looking for a handout. On this trip we didn't have any of Yogi's friends
join us, but that's okay because their table manners aren't that good anyway.
On the other hand, the deer were plentiful and were always a welcome sight.
We had several doe and even a couple buck stop by for a bite to eat.
One
day we rented a small boat and went across the lake and had a picnic lunch while
floating peacefully and enjoying the view of the surrounding mountains. On
Tuesday, we took John's parents Suzuki 4x4 (which we towed behind us in the
motorhome) over
to a ghost town named Bodie.
(We would also recommend checking out the unofficial
Bodie site.) The town, which is about 30 miles from Bridgeport was
started during the gold rush of the 1880's. It was a very rough and tumble
town that once boasted 65 saloons for the population of around 10,000. It
is now kept in the state of "arrested decay" by the California State
Parks. If you're ever out that way, it's worth the drive!

The rest of our time
there was spent hiking, taking walks, relaxing and sitting around the campfire
talking and playing with Karlie. It was wonderful.
