Kaitlyn at Tom's Farms in Corona
-- a Quick Stop on the Way to Vail Lake
Time for another big adventure – not
far away this time, but with a large group! On Friday morning,
April 9th, we headed off to
Vail Lake RV Resort in Temecula
with about 30 other people for a fun-filled Easter
weekend.
We love Vail Lake because it's less than two
hours away and it has so many things to do. (But it's not close to
the lake -- go figure!) On the way to Temecula, we stopped at
Tom’s Farms (a
mini Knott's Berry Farm) for burgers and fries, which were delicious, and then headed
to our "home" for the weekend. We arrived at Vail Lake around 1:30
and found our spot (site No. 42) in the Lower Chardonnay Mesa area.
As
soon as we had the kids' toys unpacked, they were riding scooters,
bikes, and the girls' battery-powered quads. They bounced from
trailer to trailer and played ball in the large grass area until they
were pooped out! On Saturday morning, we gathered everyone up for
our semi-annual miniature golf tournament – the course is one of the
many amenities that this campground offers. We didn’t check the final
golf scores for the group, but I beat John by only one point thanks to
my two holes in one! (Trust me, it was shear luck!) Kaitlyn
was not into golfing, so she just bounced from group to group taking it
all in. Karlie loved golfing and did pretty well. She loved telling me
her score after each hole. Afterwards, we fed the kids lunch and put
them down for naps.

Once the kids were up and raring to go, it was
time to dye eggs! We had 10
kids of all ages sharing in the fun. Kaitlyn loved pink, so
all three of her eggs were dyed the same color. She also loved using a
foam sponge to put more colors on her eggs. GoGo (April's mom) helped
Kaitlyn put stickers on some of them. Karlie colored several eggs, all
different colors. Around 6:00, we had a huge taco buffet with all the fixin's, including several different kinds of meat, rice, beans, and
even chili – everyone brought something to the meal and it was fabulous!
After the kids had a few minutes to digest their food, we pulled out the
piñata which was a huge hit!

After the kids went to bed that night, the
ladies had a pow-wow in Kelly and Rick Cunningham’s trailer to fill
plastic eggs with candy for our Easter Egg Hunt the next morning – we filled about 200! Then we "painted" bunny
prints all over the campground using canned snow and bunny print
stencils. (This kids really love finding the prints on the steps
of the trailer!) The next morning, the guys hid the eggs, which
took them quite a while since they had so many! The Egg
Hunt lasted a whole 10 minutes, but the kids had a ball. Checkout time
was noon, so we all packed up shortly after breakfast and headed home.
We really had a fun weekend. Even though the girls are still very young,
I think they will remember bits and pieces of this amazing weekend.
